How and when did you discover CrossFit & what concerns or problems did you have before you started?
I heard of CrossFit a long time ago, unfortunately mostly from people poking fun at it. It definitely had a stigma among my peers. My concerns were high injury rate, not being able to keep up (I had done my own training but this would be a real test I thought) or that I just wouldn’t fit in the culture in general.
Previously when I worked out, I would keep to myself, hardly saying any words to anyone except hello and goodbye to the gym desk worker. So seeing as a majority of the sessions have 8+ people working out together, I didn’t think I would like that aspect very much.
I’m happy to say thought that the stigma is wrong, and I couldn’t have been more wrong about how I feel about working out in groups and having the support of everyone, and feeling like I’m a part of a community of like minded individuals.
What results have you gotten so far?
Well I had never done any sort of Olympic lifting prior to joining EverProven, and now I do it nearly every day! As a result, I feel like I have a lot more well rounded strength, rather than just trying to get big biceps and a big chest. I mean, I still want that and am working towards those too, but I’m doing so much more full body work than I would do on my own, which has just made me feel more solid overall, and less prone to injury with all the stabilizing muscles I’ve been gaining throughout my intro to CrossFit
What is different about EverProven services?
The fact that the coaches actually care about the attendees in their class! It’s really clear that they are super passionate about fitness and lifting, and their enthusiasm translates to excellent coaching. More than just fitness coaching, I’ve learned a lot from them in my short time here at EverProven with just life advice, balancing working out and all the other aspects that make a person. We all love to lift and stay in shape, that’s why we all go, but it’s good to get perspective from the coaches on other aspects of life.
What would you tell someone that is on the fence about joining EverProven?
Come to “Bring a Friend Thursday” and try it out! That’s how I got sucked in, and now I can’t go back. I was really surprised at how welcoming everyone was to me, and immediately took me into the fold. There was zero time where I felt like an outsider. Everyone is there for the same reason, to improve and get better in their own ways. Everyone is willing to help and offer advice, and support you when you need it. I also was surprised about all the scaling options. If you were someone who had never worked out, or had taken a long hiatus, they make it really easy to get back into the swing of things, with no judgement. Everyone is just happy to see everyone else progress.
What is one interesting fact many people don’t know about you?
When not at the gym or work, I like to (try) to make music with my guitars and some small synthesizers. Making loops and loops of utter garbage until every now and again something smooth comes out and it just clicks. Kinda like trying to get a new lift nailed down at the gym.
