March Athlete of the Month: Shane Birkel
How and when did you discover CrossFit?
I really got into it a little over a year ago. My friends, Ryan and Keri, made me do it.
How has CrossFit affected you since you started?
My energy levels are better, more focus, able to do a lot more activities with my kids. I’m making more money, people are taking notice and my biceps are huge. Honestly, I’ve struggled with depression my whole life and I notice a huge difference when I’m going to CrossFit regularly.
What class do you normally attend?
Kind of all over the place, but probably 6:30 pm most. I love going on the weekends too.
What are your short and long term goals?
My long term goals are just to stay consistent with it and continue to make it part of my routine. I hope to stay strong and healthy for decades to come and I feel CrossFit will be an important part of the formula for success. I am also planning to become one of the most famous relationship experts in the world.
What’s your favorite WOD/movement?
That moment when everyone finishes the workout and I lay face down on the floor for 30 seconds and then go ?? fist bump everyone.
What’s your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
I haven’t been able to do overhead squats for some reason. #2020goals
What is one interesting fact many people don’t know about you?
I have a podcast called The Couples Therapist Couch that is all about the practice of couples therapy where I interview experts in the field. I have released over 100 episodes. I have also been invited on many other podcasts to talk about how to have a healthy relationship.
