How and when did you discover CrossFit & what concerns or problems did you have before you started?
I started attending CrossFit classes in August 2022. Prior to this, I had been training in powerlifting and had always been curious about CrossFit but had many misconceptions stuck in my mind: CrossFit training was too intense, caused injuries, was only for really fit athletes, etc. I realized after learning more about EverProven and its coaches/programming that none of what I’d previously heard about CrossFit was true. I was longing to be part of a fitness community, so I decided to take the plunge. I was definitely self conscious and anxious at first. Would these large classes feel intimidating? Would I not “fit in” since I didn’t know the olympic lifts or any gymnastics movements yet? Would I be able to make it through a WOD? All of my concerns were quickly set aside once I stepped into that first class: Immediately the coach and two other participants introduced themselves and welcomed me. I quickly learned that anything can be modified to fit one’s abilities and that everyone goes at their own pace. No judgement!
What results have you gotten so far?
So many positives! I am fitter and have more endurance. I am also more flexible! I feel like I use my “whole body” more in these work outs than I ever have before in my previous training. I’ve come a long way in learning the olympic lifts. An added bonus is that I’ve maintained my squat, bench and deadlift strength even though I don’t practice these three lifts nearly as often! And most of all, I thoroughly enjoy each work out and the awesome community of people at EverProven. It’s truly a family, and I’m so grateful for it!
What is different about EverProven services?
I’d say three things: (1) Programming – the programming is carefully crafted each week by Matt and it provides a great variety of movements for all abilities. There is a method to his madness! (2) Coaching – the coaches are extremely knowledgeable, approachable, give great feedback and are able to provide modifications when requested. They also truly care about the members (3) the Community – the members here do feel like a family – we keep each other accountable, we lift each other up and cheer for one another, we share our successes and struggles, and help each other along the way.
What would you tell someone that is on the fence about joining EverProven?
Don’t be afraid! It’s such a welcoming atmosphere, and there are modifications for everything. Go at your own pace, and remind yourself that no one is judging you for what you can or can’t do – this is YOUR hour to work YOUR body. I guarantee that you’ll finish each class with a huge feeling of accomplishment and you’ll be glad you came. I’d also highly recommend the Proven Lift class to anyone starting out. These classes have been instrumental for me in learning the olympic lifts in a smaller group setting without feeling the “rush” of a timer being on.
What is one interesting fact many people don’t know about you?
English is my second language! I grew up in Quebec, Canada speaking French. You’ll likely notice and accent creeping in if you’re ever having a conversation with me about Quebec 🙂
